Best Friends

How do you define best friends?

Being there for each other all the time, through thick and thin?

Not judging each other and standing up for each other?

Meeting once a year but still able to talk as if the both of you have never been separated?

There are lots of way to determine if someone is your best friend.

But definitely not if you are being put down so that your friend can look good.

If you are being betrayed so that your friend can get some benefits.

If you are always there for your friend in need but when you are in need, your friend is nowhere to be found.

If people you just met care for you more than your friend did.

Everyone wants a friend who they can count on, to look for when they want to go out, to talk to when they are feeling down.

But what they don't know is, they need to do the same.

Friendship is like a relationship. It takes two hands to clap. You give, and you take. If it's one way, it will not last. No matter how much someone love you, they will get tired one day.

Met Amanda yesterday morning for breakfast at KFC. It was very filling, so we decided to go on an impromptu trip to Haji Lane, walking all the way from Plaza Singapura.

Not knowing the way, we did things the 'Amanda' way - don't think, just go with your gut feel, and we got a pleasant surprise!

Dog Gathering

Brought Xena to Sentosa on Monday for a dog gathering.

As Xena has motion sickness, I asked Robin along so he could take over the wheel while I take care of her.

6 lovely dogs and their owners were present for this gathering.

Xena.

Caesar.

Tiara.

Chloe.

Sinba.

Yuki.

Xena hates the water. But it was so hot that day, she willingly walked into the water to cool herself.

The dogs rested in the shade after their swim and I was entertained just by watching them.

Sinba was disturbed by some other dog (can't remember which dog) and Caesar came over to rescue him. Caesar barked and stood over him. So cute!

And then they rested side by side.

Xena was moody at the end of the day, cause she's sun burnt.

Look at her nose, the poor little girl.

The dogs were exhausted after a day of fun.

Tiara fell asleep there and then!

And Xena went to sleep the moment she stepped into the house, with her leash still on!

I had to carry her to the toilet to bathe her.

Nevertheless, it was a great outing!

I had fun!

Crystal's Birthday Celebration

Me: I'm bringing Xena to Nex tomorrow to attend her friend's birthday party.

Dad: Xena? Xena?! You mean our Xena?

Me: Yes, Xena, my dog.

Haha. Is it that unbelievable that dogs have birthday parties nowadays?

So on Sunday, Jean picked Xena and I up and brought us to Doggiestyle Cafe at Nex.

For those interested, it's at the top level, and there's a pets' lift if you are planning to bring your dog. We didn't know and I had to carry Xena all the way! Serious muscle training, no joke.

There's human menu as well as dog menu, so we got pork and chicken for our little furry friends.

Sorry, the dogs were too impatient.

I guess the food's really yummy.

Crystal started with having to be fed..

To gobbling it up on her own.

After we were all done with our lunch, Crystal's cake was served.

Apparently you need to order in advance if you want a birthday cake, so we only managed to get brownie.

"Come Crystal, take a photo with Xena."

"She's only interested in the food."

"I don't want!"

"Ok la ok la, I give you a kiss." Aww.

Wait for cake until tired.

"Ooh finally!"

"What now again?! We want cake!"

You can unleash your dog and let them run around freely. I've observed that the small dogs tend to bark the most and try to bully the bigger ones.

And this dog here got so scared he hid under the table.

Although he looks big, he's only 8 months old!

Yes, my dog is 4 years old, and she looks like a dwarf beside him.

And if you have a female dog, be careful of male dogs.

The one of the left was camping beside Crystal's chair the whole time, so faithful.

Stephanie finally plucked up the courage to carry Xena!

Marketing Concepts

Yesterday was the first lesson for my fifth module - Integrated Marketing Communications.

To help us understand marketing concepts, my lecturer gave a funny example.

I remember seeing the video before, and it's pretty interesting, so I went to look for it.

For all those who are dealing with marketing, hope it helps!

Clubbing

I went clubbing at Powerhouse for the first time last week.

And from then till now, I've been there 7 times.

It's insane, I know.

I've never really liked clubbing.

I don't really drink, I don't really dance, and I don't really like the squeezing.

However, after clubbing 7 times in 2 weeks, I find it acceptable.

The person who introduced me to clubbing is my girlfriend.

Audrey.

Audrey started clubbing ages ago, and her clubbing partner is Hidayah.

So because of clubbing, I got closer to Audrey, and I got to know Hidayah better.

Through clubbing, I also made a few friends.

I'm still pretty skeptical of people I meet in a club though, so these new friends were mainly the staff there, bouncers and servers alike, and people I met there who happened to be my seniors in secondary school and polytechnic.

I'm not a fan of drinking still, but at least it isn't as awful as I thought it would be.

I'm also not into dancing at this moment, maybe I would in future, we wouldn't know. But at this point of time, I'm contented watching people dance, good and bad alike, while sipping my drink from the corner of the room.

Crowd wise, Powerhouse is pretty big, and the ceiling's really high, so I don't feel too claustrophobic.

Contrary to what people think, clubbing is not really that bad, but of course, that's if you know your limits.

Don't club every single night the club is open.

Don't drink till you are high/drunk/wasted.

Don't talk to every single guy who approaches you. Be smart. Some of them are just there to hook up with girls. Unless you are sure, never trust someone you meet in a club.

To me, since there is nothing to do in Singapore at night, why not?

Besides, I do not spend when I go to a club. Free entry, free drinks. A girl's privilege.

At the end of the day, the most important thing when going to a club, is to go with someone you trust.

Someone to look out for you, to take care of you, and make sure you get home safely if you get drunk.

Clubbing is ok, but know your limits.

Tom Yum Kung Fu

After a day of intense revision, Llvin brought me to Tom Yum Kung Fu for dinner.

It serves Thai food, and it's good!

We had the Moo Kata.

Thai charcoal grill & steamboat.

We ordered the platter.

Which consists of pork, bacon, scallops, prawns, fishcakes, vegetables and rice vermicelli.

With an addition of beef.

Which tastes awesome dipped in the sauce given!

Pork lard is used instead of butter, and it made the meat fragrant.

The meat's oil will also drip down into the soup, making it tasty.

On top of that, we had chicken wings for our side order.

And of course, the drinks.

Old school Fanta.

Singha beer.

Happy girl indeed.

Homemade Sushi

I made Sushi yesterday.

I followed a recipe online and it was a success!

It tastes quite good too!

For someone who doesn't cook at all, it says a lot.

Didn't take any photos during the process as I had to deal with the sticky rice.

Goodbye, Pasir Ris

I love Pasir Ris.

The environment's great!

Fresh air, friendly and nice residents, happy children and dogs in the park in the evenings, and it's clean & green!

What's there not to love?

Well ok, the only disadvantage is that it's not exactly the most accessible place, unless you have your own transport.

I was happily staying at Pasir Ris St 72, Blk 711 for the past few years.

It was an Executive Apartment, and I had my own room.

My room has everything, I can be cooped up there for months without feeling bored.

Windows PC to watch movies, Macbook Pro to surf net, bookshelf filled with interesting reads, piano, guitar, treadmill, Nintendo Wii complete with the guitar hero set, comfortable queen size bed, and the cutest little dog!

Seriously, how can I ever run out of things to do?

Sadly, my parents decided that we do not need such a huge place and decided to move back to their favourite place - Hougang.

Well, they were right in a way. Cleaning that house is a bitch! And eventually, my sister and I are going to get married and move out, so they don't need such a big house.

So since the price was quite high, we sold it.

And since my room used to be pretty big, it meant that most of my things got to go.

Obviously, the treadmill is the first to go.

Threw out lots of stuff, cleaned up the flat for the new owner, cleaned the new flat, and then it was the time for the move.

We didn't manage to get our ideal flat in time, so we rented a place first. Unfortunately, it wasn't lift level, so the moving was a nightmare!

We found out that the best way is to do it the "factory" way though.

Daddy takes items out from the car, I collect items and bring to level 2 to Agnes, she brings items to level 3 to Andy, he brings items to level 4 to Llvin, and he brings items to the flat where mummy packs the items in the house.

The thought of having to go through it all over again is damn sian.

Goodbye Pasir Ris, I will miss you.

YOUF Charity Film Screening

So this is it.

All the months of hard work was for this.

The YOUF Charity Film Screening.

I couldn't sleep well the night before the event, from being too excited.

Or maybe I was nervous?

Woke up early in the morning to settle some of the admin stuff, then I went to pick Kenneth up, before heading to Kallang to collect the standee, Bras Basah to buy some stationary, and lastly, GV VivoCity to do the set up.

We were more or less done when the student volunteers from Ngee Ann Polytechnic reported for duty. Briefed them, did the seating arrangements, and the guests started pouring in.

The response's pretty good.

We booked 2 theaters, with one of them being "bought" by DirectAsia.com, as they sponsored some children to join us for this event, and the other theatre's pretty filled up too.

The children even had souvenirs to bring back!

Before the screening of the film, Josiah, the chairperson of this event, and the Director of my film, gave the opening speech.

I walked in in the middle of his speech, and I must say, it really warmed my heart.

After the screening, the VIPs were ushered to the reception area, and I felt really happy seeing the smiles on their faces, and I was over the moon when people come up to me telling me what a great event it was, how meaningful the event is, and how much they enjoyed the films.

To end off, I would like to thank a couple of people, whom without, the event wouldn't be a success.

Josiah, who went through all the obstacles with me, from pre-production of the film, to this. And being so understanding and never once complaining, or giving up no matter how bad things looked.

Kenneth, for being such an excellent help to us. Your marketing and PR skills are fantastic!

Gloria, Yilong, and the student volunteers, who had such excellent service, the guests were impressed!

Mutifolds, for the photography service.

My friends, the VIPS, and everyone else, who took time off their busy schedule to support the event.

And of course..

The committee, and everyone who helped out in a way or another.

Hope all of you enjoyed yourself, and thank you so much, for all the donations!

All proceeds of tickets sales and donations went to the Straits Times Pocket Money Fund, and I thank you, for helping the needy children.

You have no idea how much it will mean to them.

At this point of time, I would also like to say, I'm very disappointed in some of those "well known" bloggers.

What happened was, I invited a few of them to the event, and if they would like to, help to spread the word.

Of course, as this is a charity event, I could not pay them anything.

Only one blogger's manager replied, that she was sorry that she's unable to attend, as she was overseas.

How about the rest?

Nothing. No replies, no acknowledgement. Nothing.

You could have replied even if you didn't want to do it, no?

I thought maybe they were busy initially.

Then I saw that they had new posts, new tweets, and some even tweeted that they replied all their emails and Formspring questions from their readers.

It really made me wonder, whether their blogs and "fame" are purely business now. And that there must be an advantage for them to even attend a charity event.

Disappointing, really.

Chinese New Year'11

Happy Chinese New Year!

What comes to your mind when you think about Chinese New Year?

Spring cleanings, new clothes, red packets, mandarin oranges, yusheng, gambling and lots of goodies?

Well, Chinese New Year is more than that, for me at least.

Every year, on New Year's Eve, my family will head to my Uncle's for reunion dinner with my paternal grandmother and the families of her sons. After dinner, we will head home to do some last minute cleaning up because it is taboo to sweep the floor or use the scissors on Chinese New Year. My siblings and I will then try to stay up as late as we can to shou ye, in the hope that our parents will live to a ripe old age.

On chu yi, day 1 of the Chinese New Year, we will wake up early, dress up, and bai nian to our parents with oranges and nice words, and they will give us another pair of oranges with a red packet.

Then we will head out to the eldest son's house of my maternal grandparents, where we will meet all the relatives from that side, followed by the eldest son's house of my paternal grandparents, where the same will happen.

In a way, it's good for me cause I only have to go house visiting twice, cause everybody will gather at one place. For some others, they will have to go to different people's house to bai nian. It can be really tiring, travelling from place to place when you are all dressed up, especially if you do not have your own transport.

I will then spend the next few days at different relative's house from my father's side. We will take turns to host every year, for different days. The uncles will be playing poker, the aunties will be playing mahjong, and the teenagers will probably be watching DVDs, catching up, or playing games.

To me, Chinese New Year is a time where I get to meet all my relatives and catch up with them. It is a time where we will drop everything, and be home. Although I admit, it can be pretty irritating if the parents start comparing their kids.

So this is my annual Chinese New Year story, how about you?

Chinese New Year is in 2 weeks time!

Have you bought your clothes yet?

I'm someone who don't like shopping (I know I fail as a women), so imagine my delight when the boyfriend surprised me with some pretty dresses.

I was kinda skeptical initially when he told me that he bought it from a blogshop.

Some time back, probably in 2009, I bought a couple of dresses and tops from this particular blogshop. The total damage was $200.

It was the first and last time I bought anything from blogshops.

Photos are deceiving. The cutting of the dress do not look anything like the photo. My father even commented that I look pregnant in this particular dress! The dresses are now somewhere in my wardrobe, untouched. What a waste of money.

Further more, the prices of the blogshop clothes are increasing. In fact, they are somewhat equivalent to those in the stores now. I might as well go to the store and be sure of what kind of material I'm getting, and how it will look on me. Different cutting looks different on different people!

However, since I was free yesterday, I tried on the dresses from Love Mi Shop and I must say I was pleasantly surprised!

Took some photos for the boyfriend to see how it looked like on me and he said they were gorgeous!

Although it's free size, it shows your figure well (not make it seem like maternity wear!) and it's comfortable.

I guess I should give blogshops another chance.

Just got to make sure I choose the right ones.

Happiness

What is happiness?

Having lots of money?

Having lots of time?

Family? Friends? Boyfriend? A pet?

I've been pretty down recently. In fact, I feel miserable.

"What is happiness? How do I be happy? How does it feel to be happy? Am I happy?"

"I want to do lots of things, but I got no time to. Ok, I shall quit my job. Oh now I got all the time in the world to do whatever I want, but I got no money. Besides, everyone's working or studying. There's nobody to hang out with. I'm back to square one."

"What is love? How do you know if you love someone?"

All these thoughts have been in my mind.

It feels like I have never been happy. I don't know what is happiness, and I don't know how it feels to be really happy, from the bottom of your heart.

Maybe it's my personality that stops me from getting happiness.

Is being happy really that simple? Do whatever your heart tells you to?

What if you don't even know what you want, or what you need?

How then, can you ever be truly happy?

YOUF is a charity film screening that is all about Youths, by Youths and for the Youths.

2 years ago, I was still in Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of FIlm & Media Studies, pursuing a Diploma in Film, Sound, & Video.

On that fateful day, we were asked to choose between IAP (Industrial Attachment Programme) or IBP (Industrial Based Project).

To be honest, I wanted to choose IAP, not because it seemed exciting to work along artistes, but because I didn't have the confidence to do IBP, and produce a film decent enough that wouldn't make me embarrassed.

However, this group of guys approached me, inviting me to join their group. All they lacked of was a producer. After hearing their stories and plans, I decided to take up the challenge.

It was a roller coaster ride from then on. Meetings after meetings, setbacks, broken promises, disappointments, sleepless nights; blood, tears, and sweat. It was a stressful period.

But we made it.

We made FSV history, producing a film that is of the highest budget ($30,000), all of which are sponsored, had high tech equipments, and had underwater scenes.

The film has since won various awards like the Cathay Organisation Film Award, Crowbar Awards 2009, and was nominated for the Singapore International FIlm Festival and was one of the two films from Singapore that was nominated for the Czech Film Festival.

So 2 years down the road, what have we achieved?

Nothing.

True, the film has travelled and won awards. But was it our aim?

No.

Our aim for this film is to motivate and inspire people.

We want people to know that nothing is impossible; fight for your dreams.

If we can do it, so can you!

And that is how YOUF Charity Screening came about!

Inspiring other and helping less fortunate youths, that's our aim.

Goodbye 2010, Welcome 2011

It's the time of the year again.

The time where everyone say "Where did the year go?!".

The time where everyone look back on the events that happened.

The time where resolutions are made.

So here goes.

What happened in 2010?!

January:

Cut bangs and highlighted my hair. Not gonna do it again

February:

First clubbing experience at Zouk. Met desperate guys.

March:

Won the Service Champion award.

April:

Finally got the courage to send Xena for dental scaling.

May:

Forgo the chance to go to Phuket with TBT. Made it up by having fun at Sentosa with Llvin and Elisa!

June:

Hazel resigned, and work has never been the same.

July:

Found a great guy, and went on our first trip to Genting.

August:

Turned 22.

September:

Spent quality time with Llvin; visited Singapore River Cruise, Singapore Discovery Center, Army Museum of Singapore, Singapore Zoo, and Night Safari!

Started my Bachelor of Communication (Mass Communication) degree programme at RMIT (SIM).

October:

Attended Mister Singapore 2010.

November:

Resigned from NTUC Club as a HR officer.

December:

Baked cookies for the first time.

Had a wonderful christmas with loads of celebrations.

And that sums up my...

So what's am I gonna do in 2011?

1. Be happy.

2. Be myself.

3. Be a better daughter, sister, girlfriend, and friend.

So there, WELCOME 2011!

It's gonna be a good year!
